About Tim Johnson

Tim Johnson was born in 1959 in Ohio, in the Unites States, and has been a professional musician and educator for over thirty years. After studying jazz piano at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Tim moved to New York where he worked as a rehearsal pianist, vocal coach and musical director for musical theatre and on Broadway shows alongside well known Broadway producer and director, Larry Alford.

This experience provided the springboard for Tim's work upon luxury cruise liners as both musical director and pianist, which took him around the world many times and fuelled a life-long interest in travel.

In 1990, Tim moved to Vienna, Austria, to work at the American Institute of Music, as both voice teacher and curriculum consultant, but left a year later when he was offered the opportunity to work with Bette Midler and her background singers on the "Experience the Divine" tour , assisting with vocal and dance arrangements, and as a rehearsal pianist.

Returning toLos Angeles,Tim worked for the renowned vocal coach to the stars, Seth Riggs, and Roger Love, and later with the award winning choreographer Anita Mann in Las Vegas. During this time he had the opportunity to work with celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, and several other celebrities, and on several TV and Hollywood films as a vocal coach, and for many TV projects and live musical revues in Vegas.

 

After another stint working as musical director onboard a cruise ship,Tim moved to Thailand in 2000, and has been a resident of Bangkok ever since.
As well as being Master vocal coach and Head of the voice department at MIFA, the International Institute of Music, Tim also worked developing artist-training programs for GMM Grammy, and as a vocal consultant for many of its leading thai superstars. He also produced and directed the award-winning audio book "How You Are Like Shampoo", and as a vocal coach on films such as "Sellout", which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

In 2008 Tim established his own company, Tim Johnson's Workshop, where he continues to work as a consultant on many musical projects, as well as teaching singing and piano to a range of students from young children through to adults, both amateur and professional. Tim's students include HRH Princess Ubol of Thailand, as well as many well known Thai singers and celebrities. Tim also was full time professor at Mahidol College of Music teaching in the musical theater department. Tim was the vocal teacher for the popular television show THE VOICE VIETNAM and THE VOICE KIDS VIETNAM in 2013.
